Join Anna for a 4-day series exploring the postures of Ashtanga Yoga.
Ashtanga Yoga is a highly structured vinyasa-style class with six series each containing sets of specific postures. This workshop will focus on the first series. The primary series begins with ten sun salutations (five A and five B), continues with a series of standing poses done on each side, and finishes with a set of seated poses and inversions, which are linked by a vinyasa sequence.
Throughout this workshop we will practice all postures in the Ashtanga yoga primary series. We will discuss proper alignment, modifications/variations, and basic anatomy for several postures. After completion of this workshop, you will feel more confident in your self-practice and take away knowledge about your body and mind that you will be able to apply in any style of yoga class.
Day 1 (1 hr.): What is Ashtanga? Four key elements. Teach Sun A, Sun B, and standing sequence.
Day 2 (1 hr.): Review. Teach the seated sequence.
Day 3 (1 hr.): Review. Teach the finishing sequence.
Day 4 (2 hours): Practice the entire series.
There will be 30 minutes of optional Q&A after each session. Please note that day 4 will be a 2-hour Ashtanga series.
